The Village Council serves as Shelby’s governing body, making policy decisions and providing leadership to ensure the community’s needs are met while managing resources responsibly. The Village Council is composed of 6 council members each serving a term of four years, and 1 president serving a term of two years. All Village Council members are voted in by the citizens of Shelby. If any seats are vacant after elections or are made vacant during a term, the Council will appoint applicants to fill vacant seats.
Council Meetings
The Village Council meets the 2nd and 4th Monday each month beginning at 6:00pm in the Village Hall meeting room (218 N Michigan Ave). The public is welcome to attend council meetings and may speak during the designated citizen participation portion.

Your Council Members
John Sutton was elected Council President in 2024 and serves on all Village Committees and the Planning Commission. A longtime machinist at GE Aviation, he enjoys camping, sports, and family time. John hopes to make the Rail Trail a bigger part of community life in Shelby.
Crystal was elected in November of 2024. Crystal is the Chair for the Village Ordinance Committee and sits on the Village Water and Sanitation Committee.
Dan has served on the Village Council for over six years and is currently Chair of the Streets and Sidewalk Committee and Co-Chair of the Ordinance Committee. He works full-time at NJ Fox and Son’s and enjoys fishing, golfing, hunting, and time with his grandkids. Dan is passionate about revitalizing downtown Shelby and supporting new local businesses.
Curt was appointed onto the Village of Shelby Council in September of 2022. Curt is Chair of the Water and Sanitation Committee and Co-Chair of the Streets and Sidewalks Committee. Curt has lived in the Village of Shelby for most of his life and worked for the Village DPW for 39 years.
Samantha was elected onto the Village Council in November 2024. Her current term will end in November 2028. Samantha is the Chair for the Parks, Recreation and Buildings Committee and Co-chair of the Personnel Committee. She also a member of the Village Planning Commission.
Steve’s current term ends in November 2026. Steve is the Chair of the Village Finance and Insurance Committee and Co-Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Buildings Committee. After 22 years of teaching 2nd Grade, Steve retired in 2012 and now works part-time at Harris Funeral Home. He enjoys spending time with his family and hopes to serve the Village of Shelby to the best of his ability.
Mike was initially appointed to the Village Council in 2021 to fill a vacancy. He is Chair of the Personnel Committee, and Co-Chair of the Finance and Insurance Committee.
