Paul Inglis - Village President


Term ending: November 2020

Paul Inglis has been the Council President since his election in November 2014. His current term will expire in November of 2020. As Council President, he is a member of all Village Committees. When Paul is not involved in Council duties, he is involved in many community service agencies and charitable organizations. In his spare time, Paul enjoys playing golf, bowling, working on his lawn and flower garden. Paul and his wife Cheri enjoy the time that they spend with their grandchildren Landon and Thea. Paul would like to see a collective and maximum effort to revitalize the downtown business area to make our community more attractive to visitors and serve as a magnet for drawing new retail business. President Inglis believes that expansion, growth, and development of our Industrial Park property are necessary to improving the Village of Shelby.

John Sutton - Trustee


Term ending: November 2020

John was elected initially in 2008, and his current term will end in November 2020. John is the Chair for the Village Personnel Committee and sits on the Village Parks, Rec & Bldgs Committee. He is also a member of the Village Planning Commission. In his free time, he enjoys camping, hunting, watching sporting events, and spending time with this family. John has worked for GE Aviation as a machinist since 1993. He would like to see the Rail Trail become more of a focal point to our community because he believes that Shelby could be a perfect spot for people who use the trail to stop and enjoy part of their day in Shelby.

Dan Zaverl - Trustee


Term ending: November 2022

Dan has been a member of the Village Council for over 6 years; his current term ends in November 2022. Dan is the Chair of the Village Streets and Sidewalk Committee and Co-Chairs the Village Ordinance Committee. Dan is employed by NJ Fox and Son’s full-time, and enjoys fishing, golfing, hunting and spending time with his grand-kids in his free time. Dan would like to help revitalize Shelby’s downtown district by bringing in new businesses and further beautifying the Village of Shelby.

Bill Harris - Trustee


Term ending: November 2022

Bill was elected onto the Shelby Village Council in 2014. His current term ends in November of 2022. Bill Chairs the Village Water & Sanitation Committee and Co-chairs the Village Finance & Insurance Committee. Bill keeps quite busy as the owner and operator of Harris Funeral Home and is an active member of the Shelby Rotary Club. You can catch Bill frequently riding his bike along the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail. Bill strives to get fellow residents in the community engaged in the future planning of our Village. He is often asking his neighbors what they would like to see done in the Village of Shelby. He would also like to see the Rail Trail Pavilion developed more such as a band shell.

Andy Near - Trustee


Term ending: November 2020

Andy was appointed to sit on the Village Council in September 2015 to fill a vacant seat until the next election. His current term will end in November 2020. Andy is the Chair for the Parks, Rec & Bldgs. Committee and Co-chair of the Personnel Committee. When Andy is not performing Village Council duties, he operates his business, Empire Contractors LLC. Andy is also a board member of both the West Michigan Home Builders Association and the Shelby Baptist Church. In his spare time, Andy enjoys camping, climbing, sailing, and traveling with his family. Andy would like to see more progress with the Village Parks and community integration that could help impassion the younger generation.

Steve Crothers - Trustee


Term ending: November 2022 

Steve's current term ends in November 2022. Steve is the Chair of the Village Ordinance Committee and Co-Chair of the Water and Sanitation Committee. After 22 years of teaching 2nd Grade, Steve retired in 2012 and now works part-time at Harris Funeral Home. He enjoys spending time with his family and hopes to serve the Village of Shelby to the best of his ability.

Jim Wyns - Trustee


Term ending: November 2020

Jim was elected to sit on the Village Council in November 2016, and his term will end in 2020. Jim is the Chair of the Finance Committee as well as the Co-Chair of the Village Streets and Sidewalk Committee. Born and raised in Shelby, Jim is the former co-owner of Cherry Hill Super Market. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, bowling, and reading. He hopes to bring his business experience to the table in an effort to help promote and benefit the Village of Shelby.
