Shelby’s New Community Art Experience
Last year’s Shelby Chainsaw Carving Festival was a huge success—and now we’re carving out something even bigger! Introducing CarvePrize, a bold new art competition inspired by Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize, but with a rugged Shelby twist.
This open-air event transforms downtown Shelby into a gallery of chainsaw-carved sculptures, attracting artists and visitors from across Michigan and beyond.
🔥 What is CarvePrize?
Think ArtPrize—but with chainsaw carvings.
Artists will create stunning sculptures using chainsaws, woodcarving tools, and paint. These works of art will be displayed throughout downtown Shelby, competing for cash prizes and community recognition. CarvePrize celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and the spirit of Shelby.

- Timeline: Begins May 15, culminating at the Chainsaw Carving Festival in July
- Location: Public spaces throughout downtown Shelby
- Display: Sculptures mounted on decorative concrete blocks (2’ x 2’ x 2’)
